Bungalow architecture rewards detail
Broad Ripple is largely 1920s bungalows and American foursquares on tight lots. These homes have deep front porches, tapered columns, exposed rafter tails, and dormers, and all of that detail is the point. Outlining just the main roofline on a bungalow skips everything that makes it a bungalow.
The designs that work here pick out the porch, the columns, and the dormer, and treat the roofline as the frame rather than the whole picture. On a smaller house the detail is close to the sidewalk, so it gets seen properly.
Tight lots, mature trees, and access
Lot lines are close in Broad Ripple and there is often no driveway to set a ladder from, so installs here are planned around access. Mature street trees also mean part of the roofline may be screened from certain angles, which we account for when deciding where the runs actually pay off.
